Lost in translation

UK tip of the day: "It happened to me" edition.

IF you are staying in a B&B and are traveling with family, you may want to ask for a double room with a cot instead of paying for two rooms. It's cost-efficient and usually just as comfortable, right?

Wrong.

Because of a tricky little language glitch, asking for a cot at a UK B&B will get you this ------->

And unless your traveling companion is very very small, this may result in some awkwardness.

I haven't found out how to ask for a US version of a cot - any ideas? Spare bed? Fold-away bed?

In my particular case, the B&B was able to provide me with an air mattress.

Crisis averted.
